My Daily Prayer Routine

This is how Morning Prayer happens most days here – Liturgy of the Hours and coffee. Kids running around playing (after we’ve done our morning routine and they are ready for the day) and me with my coffee praying while they play.

My husband prays his with an app on his phone either before work or during a break. On the weekends we try doing it together.

It isn’t glamorous. Sometimes I get interrupted or hit in the face with a ball. My coffee has been spilled and I’ve had days where all I can get in is the reading. On days where I get up to pray before the kids wake up, I frequently have to pause because they wake up too early.

But this is life for right now. I roll with it and try not to take myself too seriously. I make sure I get time in adoration when I can, regular confession, and Mass every single Sunday and Holy Day. We try to pray at least part of a Rosary each evening as a family. And I take more time alone in prayer at night when the kids are sleeping if I can.

It hasn’t always looked like this and I know it won’t always look like this. The important thing is to be praying every day and stay connected to the Vine.

Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.    -John 15:4-5

What does your prayer routine look like each day? I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Ok, truly it goes, morning offering, angelus, and whatever strikes me at bedtime. I’m always working through a spiritual book, bible or otherwise. This is the INTENDED plan, meaning I only get about half of it done any given day!

Yes I love having a loose plan like that! I usually never have a day that looks identical to another prayer wise – but if I know I need to get some Scripture in, want to do my Rosary at some point, family prayer and read – then I get at least some of that in and keeps my prayer life kickin’. The challenge for me is to not make excuses and keep praying!

  2. Read this sometime ago and laughed because its so typical. Haven’t had time to comment till now. On weekdays it is the rosary or a short prayer or nothing at all in the mornings. Sometimes a few decades while driving to work (started that recently). At night our four year old leads the prayer(lol, but its a start) and we all say the Jesus I Love You prayer. Sunday masses yes. Every other thing…well, that is something to hope for.

That’s so precious the four year old is leading prayer! Every little bit counts 🙂
